Mr. Bling - Is there anything better than the simple pleasure of Wilco's "AM" record? Well, maybe something, but not for the next half hour.

Yesterday, I ducked out do do some errands, came back and noticed I had a message on my machine. "That's pretty odd," I thought. Typically Citibank doesn't leave messages, they just cancel my card unannounced. It was a message from a manager at a company to whom I sent a resume that day. Still, those people almost never call at all. My machine is kind of on the crappy side. The clock is wrong, and whatever method it uses to store the messages digitally is sorely lacking. 1940s digital storage technology just wasn't what it is today. So, I couldn't quite figure out the company he was calling from, or the job tittle I applied for. I pulled his phone number out, and called him back.

During the call, he asked the standard battery of phone interview questions. "Who are you?" "What have you done in the past?" I told him.

Which versions of Linux do you like and why?

Web servers?

Mail servers? I answered his questions. Told him that most of my mail server experperience is with Sendmail, and Exim, and when he asked why, I told him in no uncertain terms that Sendmail is a real pain in the ass, that it's a bitch to configure, and if you screw up even one letter, you doomed. Exim is much easier, and the first thing I did when I got to UNM, was change everything over to Exim. A lie, but it's good to show initative. I had to make myself clear.

"Ok..." he said slowly. "Let me tell you a little bit about us."

Ok.

Sendmail, Inc. is the producer of the most popular mail server in the world...

Somehow, though, after a trip to Mr. Bling I'm meeting them in person in a couple of days.
