Just another lazy summer day. I've got nothing interesting to say, and even less interesting stuff to do. It just feels like the sort of day when nothing sounds better than sitting around with a book and a bottle of beer. The trouble is, my boss would probably take exception to that idea. It's almost quittin' time, though, so I'll have plenty of time to do that this weekend, in theory.

After the move across, the wedding and the honeymoon, I'm really looking for the relative calm that finding and moving into a new apartment brings. Tanja and I are going to go into town to look for apartments this weekend. We're going to start our search in force either this weekend or next. People have been asking us where we're going to look, and the answers have pretty much been Astoria, which isn't that surprising. Lots of people move there. It's near Manhattan, there's good food, prices are all right, so why not.

But we're also thinking about Bay Ridge. My uncle tipped us off to things there, so we checked it out a few weeks ago. It's really quite a nice neighborhood, but it's pretty far from midtown. Every time I mention that we're thinking of moving there, invariably I get a "Really? Wow... that's far." I suppose they're right, but it somehow seems managable.

It seems a lot better than the trip from Farmingdale on the LIRR is. They're the same length, but the trip on the subway seems better, easier, not quite as long and dreary. I wonder why.

Toss the cheese and macaroni.

Well, I'm back, and there's so much to talk about. It was a great, great trip, except for the city of Bordeaux, which I very highly recommend skipping. However, there is a restaurant there with over 150 different kinds of cheeses and an all-you-can eat cheese buffet dinner for only 16 euro. So, maybe you shouldn't skip it. I'm not going to tell you how to live. Let's all settle down.

Either way, it was a hell of a trip. I'll post some photos when I get them and some stories when someone isn't busily paying me to preside over some sketchy technical documents.
