An ancient master of Frogger.
Croton-on-Hudson, NY - June 2008
The more I start to feel like I know my style of photography, the more I start to feel it change. One day I experiment with landscapes, the next with weird alternative processes. Either way, though, once in a while, I come back to photos, like this one, which just feel... right to me. They're simple, classic, elegant, almost completely centered in composition. I've felt for a really long time that it was all about composition. You could have the most interesting subject ever imagined in your photo, but if the composition is off, no one's going to look at the photo.
There's a lot of other factors that go into things, but ultimately, for me, the key is making sure the photo simply looks right. No tricks. No megapixels, no concern over focal length or shutter speed.
Thanks to the kid for refusing to look at the camera that day.

Drive yourself to the finish.
Meredith, New Hapmpshire - June 2007
I've had this roll of Kodak's HIE Infrared film since before I moved away from New York six years ago. In fact, the roll expired in November 2001. When we went on a weekend trip to J's house in Meredith, I figured it's now or never, so I strapped a Roscolux #26 red filter swatch over the case of my Olympus XA2, and shot at EV100, then developed the roll at home in Diafine. A lot of them came quite a bit beter than I expected they would.

Staring blankly at her boobs.
Huntington, New York - May 2007
I used to take lots of photos of shadows. For a while, I thought of photography not as taking pictures of light, but taking pictures of dark, shadows, negative space. This shot reminds me of that older stuff. The pavement makes this one looks grainier than it really is.

That's some intense grain there. That's what happens when you develop expired Fuji Superia 200 color film as black and white in Difine. Shot with a Nikon F and it's beat up 50 mm f/1.4 lens with a loose inner element.
I like this one. The grain makes it look old, maybe taken from a newspaper, even thuough I just shot it last week.
